Beyoncé’s Renaissance World Tour kicks off in May 2023 in Stockholm, Sweden and will make its way through Europe before traveling through the United States before concluding at the end of September in the city where I live, New Orleans, Louisiana. And that New Orleans show will probably be her best show honey.
But thinking that her final New Orleans show would be her blockbuster concert scared me a little. Because even though we live in New Orleans, and could have easily seen her at the New Orleans Superdome, we just figured that the New Orleans tickets would be in such high demand because it’s the final show of her tour, that we went in a completely opposite direction and bought tickets to see her in… Brussels, Belgium. More about that later.
Beyoncé is said to have gotten the inspiration for her album Renaissance from 1970s and 80s Black, gay dance music and club culture, Ball Culture to be more specific. Comparing Ball Culture images to Beyoncé’s Renaissance artwork gives you an idea of the style inspiration for her latest album. Beyoncé recorded Renaissance during COVID because she wanted to “inspire joy and escapism in listeners who had experienced isolation and to celebrate a club era in which marginalized people sought liberation through dance music.” [Wikipedia]. Beyoncé also shouts out her Uncle Jonny on the album, her gay cousin who helped raise her until his death during the Aids epidemic.
Anyhoo, back to the reason for this post, WHAT ARE WE WEARING TO THE RENAISSANCE WORLD TOUR CONCERT?! Now back to how we came to the decision to see Beyoncé in Brussels. The way it happened, it kinda started out as a joke text between me and my husband (see left). And yes, I know that’s broccoli and not a brussel sprout. I realized that after I sent it. Anyway, like I said, we could have seen her in New Orleans, but we were kind of overdue for a trip, and after a tough 2022, we just thought why not? So we decided to let seeing Beyoncé in Brussels be the main trip we take in 2023. This won’t be our first trip to Europe as we’ve visited Italy, Spain and France back in 2011 for a milestone birthday. And we don’t really know much about Brussels outside of Belgian chocolate and waffles, but we’re exited to see and experience somewhere we’re unfamiliar with. So what about you?
