CAMELLIA GRILL MY FIRST EXPERIENCE THERE

We watch a lot of The Food Network at my house. And it was there that I first saw a spotlight on Camellia Grill in New Orleans. The network was doing a “Best Of” show on breakfast spots across the country and after seeing it on The Food Network, I had been gunning to get there.  Fast forward to the end of July 2010 where my family and I were in the city to check on hotels for an upcoming family wedding, and BINGO! This was the perfect opportunity for me to finally experience Camellia Grill!

The weather in New Orleans on the afternoon of July 31, 2010 was fabulous. Hot. But gorgeous. Pretty days make visiting New Orleans so… wonderful. I love the Bohemian nature that’s so prevalent in a lot of the city. The streetcars, the people on bikes, the myriad of local pedestrians and tourists are a lot of what makes this city buzz with life. But I’m supposed to be telling you about my first Camellia Grill experience, right?! Well driving up Carrollton to get to Camellia Grill is beautifully scenic with it’s mature trees that line the street and the street cars… classic New Orleans.

When we first arrived at Camellia Grill, it was jam packed. It was an early Saturday afternoon, but we only waited on seats for, I’d say no longer than 10 or 15 minutes. Camellia Grill is all diner seating, and the place is full of personality. The waiters at Camellia Grill are like nothing I’ve experienced I don’t think! After a round of fist pounds from the waiters, we got our orders taken. “Are my Boo’s ready to order?” was what we heard from our waiter, lol. I love experiencing the cliched parts of cities that you always hear about. It made all of us smile. Everyone in the place seemed to be eating the burgers, so we went that same route. We ate and talked, talked and ate. Needless to say, we all enjoyed our meal and the whole Camellia Grill experience. It was our first time there, and I don’t think it’ll be our last.
