GETAWAY HOUSE TEXAS A WELCOME AND RELAXING TRIP

GETAWAY HOUSE

We’re still in a pandemic ya’ll. And me and my husband are keenly aware of this as we hit our 25th wedding anniversary in December of 2020, right in the midst of all this COVID chaos… and we went exactly nowhere to celebrate that milestone. Fast forward to 2021 and we have available vaccines! We both got our first 2 shots in March 2021 and then we got boosters in early November (2021). We were protected and ready to go armed with a gang of travel AMEX rewards points. We were looking at going back to New York, maybe revisiting Europe!

And then Omicron showed up and started spreading FAST. This new variant started hitting the unvaccinated and the vaccinated alike. Even though the vaccinated remained more protected, we still didn’t want to chance anything, so this was now year 2 of having to postpone a nice anniversary trip… or not.

Enter Getaway… into my Facebook feed as persistent sponsored posts 10 times a day. Now I’ll admit, I thought the little cabins in the woods were cute, real cute, and I’m someone who falls for cute almost every time. Add to that after cancelling trips and getaways because of this ongoing virus, we were more than open to try safer travel alternatives and Getaway House more than fit the bill. Isolated, distanced, quiet, zero crowds. The day long road trip to get there was a bit of fun times too.

My Getaway Review

We were pleasantly surprised at nearly every aspect of this trip to our #tinycabininthewoods. We did a day long road trip from New Orleans to the Austin/San Antonio Getaway outpost (Getaway Hill Country in Wimberley, TX) and the drive over was just as peaceful and relaxing as our stay.

About a half hour before your check-in arrival, Getaway texts you the name of your cabin and the keypad code to unlock it. All of their cabins have people names (like Rosemarie, Wanda, Charles, Jessica, etc.) the name of our cabin was Gaylord and the tiny cabins are just as cute as they look online.

The tiny cabins come equipped with either one or two cozy queen beds, a small sitting/dining table, a cute little kitchen with everything you need to cook little meals, and a bath with a shower and toilet and that fabulous picture window. There’s also indoor heat and air so you can keep the inside temperature to your liking. In my opinion, these cabins would be a better vacation in the colder winter months than when it’s warmer, but this could be purely personal preference.

We still used our disinfectant wipes and Lysol even though Getaway House seems to do a very thorough job with cleaning. We also brought a few groceries (and wine) and we cooked our own meals in the little kitchen and enjoyed every second of it. They supply you with the basics, salt, pepper, olive oil (we brought our own onion and garlic powder) and there’s other provisions available for a small fee (coffee, hot chocolate, etc.)

My Getaway Travel Tips

Here are a few of my travel tips if you’re interested in visiting the Getaway cabins:

  • Don’t overpack. There’s limited space and you’re in the woods. Do bring your cozy jammies, socks and slippers for maximum relaxation though.
  • Getaway House promotes truly unplugging by putting your devices away (there’s no tv) and wifi could be spotty (again, you’re in the woods) but we downloaded Netflix movies on the iPad to watch in bed and doing that worked out nicely for us.
  • Absolutely bring any books you want to read.
  • We brought my tiny speaker along and played smooth jazz (the Miles Davis Pandora station) from my phone while cooking and eating, we also brought along a few candles and these things just raised the ambiance of our little cabin to the next level.

We enjoyed our stay so much we were ready to book a 2nd Getaway weekend. Getaway is definitely something to add to your list of places to visit especially if you’re in need of some quiet relaxation and downtime, so I hope my short review helped to plan your next Getaway!
