FOOD & TRAVEL

OUR TIME AT THE 2014 NOWFE ROYAL STREET STROLL

That was a really good glass of red wine we had right there. Really good. It was the Lodi Zinfandel from Loca Wines and it was one of many delicious wines, cocktails and dishes we were able to sample and taste at our first ever Royal Street Stroll at the 22nd annual New Orleans Wine & Food Experience (NOWFE). And an experience it was…
The New Orleans Wine & Food Experience is a ticketed event where hundreds of wineries and restaurants come together to bring you some of the best flavors New Orleans has to offer as well as delicious wines and spirits from around the world. The setting of the stroll sets it apart taking place in the famed New Orleans French Quarter on Royal Street which happens to be one of the oldest streets in the city boasting quaint antique shops and original art galleries. To begin at the Royal Street Stroll, once you check in, you’re outfitted with a wristband and a “Passport” which allows you to sip and taste the wide variety of food and wine offerings to your hearts content, and as you’re tasting, you are also welcomed to browse the many eclectic Royal Street shops and galleries. There are live bands along the route as well providing you a smooth and easy wine tasting soundtrack. It’s really quite a delightful atmosphere. And it didn’t hurt at all that the weather was perfect.

On the food side, we tasted everything from tuna tartare to lobster ravioli to duck sausage and the spirits? We imbibed in all manner of yummy reds, whites, Prosecco and spiced rums. To quote the Hip Hop group Whodini on our first time at the Royal Street Stroll, “all in all, I had a ball” we both did. So should you get tickets for The Royal Street Stroll next year to see for yourself? Well if you enjoy tasting all kinds of new and exciting dishes in a historical outdoor setting and you LOVE a good glass of wine, I’d say that The Royal Street Stroll is a “must do” event.
