We were on a roll this weekend for Brunch. And you can blame the New Orleans weather that weekend because it was perfection! The Saturday before, we had a hamburger brunch at Company Burger. The next day, we Googled and searched for somewhere new to eat brunch and we kept hitting walls telling us that the times we wanted to reserve were all full. We were intent on not falling back on any places that we had eaten before, as we were set on trying some place new.
Enter Jack Rose in the Pontchartrain Hotelwith an open reservation at 11 a.m.! I’d been wanting to check them out ever since my cousin told me she worked there. I’d seen pics there and it’s such an Old New Orleans vibe. There are flower portraits on the walls, floral wallpaper, roses on the tables and a large centerpiece portrait of Lil Wayne in their “living room”. The restaurant describes itself this way:
Jack Rose brings an eclectic and fun dining experience to the Garden District. The vibrant atmosphere encourages spontaneous celebration whether enjoying dinner in the Jack or Rose rooms, hosting an escapade in the Mile High Pie Club, snacking on small plates under the Lil Wayne Portrait in the Living Room or sipping sparkling rosé in the Rose Garden Patio. In keeping with the building’s homage to the Pontchartrain’s connection with Tennessee Williams, the name is inspired by his play The Rose Tattoo.
WHAT WE ORDERED AT JACK ROSE:
We started with the Kale Caesar, and although it might sound unexciting, it was really good! The cauliflower added a little something extra to it. Then we ordered the seared tuna (omg, probably the best thing we ate that day!) and the cracked potatoes which we couldn’t finish but they were perfect for breakfast the next morning at home. And finally we ordered the chicken and waffles, and boy, were we glad we split it because they give you an entire half of the chicken. Leg, thigh, breast, wing. Everything was tasty.
We headed back up to the rooftop bar later on in the afternoon (Hot Tin Roof) to recap the day.
New Orleans is a city that takes Sunday Brunch super seriously as there are no shortages of nice places to eat. The only question is where to next?
